I just started this book this morning...its pretty good far. It started as an attempt to answer two questions: What are the biggest problems in the world? and What does Jesus have to say about these problems?
The best (and most convicting) question (not yet answered) in the book is this one (I'm asking you): Why hasn't the Christian religion made a difference commensurate with its message, size and resources?
I would have to say the single greatest reason as I see it is there is no unity between the message, the size (the people) and the resources - in that we have yet to figure out how to get those who call themselves Christians to live the message, and we've yet to find a way to channel all those resources - whatever they maybe - finances, time or talent away from the superficial and the artificial and grow something real, genuine and thought provoking, something that engages and challenges our culture. We've left that all - we've abandoned the goal of speaking into our culture and rather are immersed in it. We teach health and wealth, we ignore Jesus, we ignore the issues of our culture - broken lives, broken heart, broken everything. I've talked about it on my blog, but we still have seminaries that don't let women take certain classes, we still skip over issues of rape or sexuality in the church, we still nit-pick over music choices and we entirely miss Him. Hopefully I sort of answered your question
