"I'm not a Conservative Christian" [/turn that frown upside down]
I read a wonderful article from your friendly internet monk with the title "I'm not a conservative christian."
This is less about saying he's not conservative than it is about the general state of pessimism that runs rampant among many Christians today. I particularly appreciated the sobering call to spend more time in the word of God than consuming conservative media. He simply contrasts the amount of time spent in front of Rush (or hannity or conservative news network or the 700 club, etc) and the amount of time spent finding out what God has to say about the issues and the effect this has on our reaction to what goes on in the world around us.
Here's a snippet...check out the rest.
Scripture is very clear that Christians can live for Christ, honor Christ, pursue the great work of taking the Gospel to the nations and discipling those who believe, in whatever country and political situation they might find themselves. The election of a liberal is not the end of anything God is doing by His Spirit. A Supreme Court decision does not affect the King of the Universe or the Kingdom that will come.
I've heard (I've said) lots of people talk about how much trouble we're in if Hillary gets elected... The truth is we're in trouble no matter what. The answer is not to get the right guy in office. The answer is to work to grow the Kingdom of God here. Not politically because we serve a power higher than the current President of the United States of America. Its an impressive title, yes. But 8 years (max) from inauguration day somebody else is taking over. The question isn't how much damage would 8 years with Hillary as president do but how much will we have done to grow the Kingdom 8 years from now. Lets not put the advancement of the Gospel in America in Mike Huckabee's basket. That goes in ours. Vote for him if you agree with him...just understand that if he loses it simply means Mike Huckabee (or the candidate of your choosing) lost. God didn't lose. God's plan is not thwarted for the next 8 years in American History... He's bigger than Hillary.
So lets keep our chin up and remember that we serve a God bigger than this world...bigger even than the President of the United States of America. Bigger than the liberals and the conservatives. Bigger than conflicts in the middle east and bigger than gay people trying to get married.
It's true..the world is going to hell in a handbasket. The Bible is clear on that. Its also clear that it doesn't have to. Lets turn off fox news, crawl out of our bomb shelters, and start spreading the Good News that there is a God with a plan for the redemption of mankind. THAT's the overarching focus of the Bible and it should be the focus of every Christian as well.

The posting also highlights the burden or turmoi that labels/language have within the church - some are drawn to and/or feel comforted to use the word conservative - as sort of "I'm not one of you," and other's prefer to even use the word liberal - but in the end all it does is add one more division - when it should just be Christian - and we can leave the political ideologies out of it.

I can be a little bit of an idealist sometimes... we've been bickering about theology for 2000 years. I'ld be happy if we could just move towards constructive bickering that is truly searching for the truth instead of just fights between two groups who are already convinced they're right.
